What is your big idea for a smarter city?
Smart Traffic Control Systems
May 04, 2013 William M16

All cities should have a smart traffic control system. A system that routes emergency services as fast as possible by use of traffic lights as well as managed closing of tunnel/bridge lanes.
It would also prioritise public transport through use of lights to facilitate faster transit.

A truly smart traffic control system would be integrated with GPS/Smartphone systems and send users via different routes to even the loads on city roads and reduce the delays caused by 'rush' hours.

Each city has its own pattern of traffic and the systems should be able to use this to smooth the passage of people throughout its control area.

It would also require a good hand-off system between control areas.
