Amtrak seat sensors to relay seat availability

Think about the mad dash of people rushing to find seats for their long Amtrak journey.

There are 2 big questions a person faces as they approach the train:
1 - "is there an available seat in this car?"
2 - if traveling with a companion, "are there 2 seats next to each other in this car?"

SOLUTION:

- Place sensors on each seat that registers a seat as taken at, say, 50 pounds.
- Place small screens outside each car door that list: 1) total available seats and, 2) how many pairs of seats are available

This will help quell the stress of the mad dash and cut down on boarding time as people walk through cars and up and down the platform to find available seating.
