I have been exploring the topic of Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) and Radio Frequency Identification RFID. Structural Health Monitoring SHM has been a field of knowledge among civil and structural engineers in last decades with considerable limitations concerning "how often" those diagnostics were performed. Broadly speaking, it can be stated that the diagnoses to the structures were formerly performed on a discrete basis (once a day, once a week, once a month or once a year). Recently, with the advent of big data, sensor technology and the Internet, SHM is increasingly being performed on a continuous real-time basis.

The 5 balloons model depicts how the following points can enhance our cities from a Structural Perspective.

1. Structures
2. Sensors
3. Data collection
4. Data Management with mobil applications
5. Mapping

A pdf (primarily) as well as a youtube video show the idea.
