With English being the second language and in many cases not the official language, the foreign residents are accustomed to face difficulties in exchanging information, reporting some incidents in the city, or make proper use of available information for their own purpose of travelling, shopping etc.

This project highlights “the issue of language barrier in engaging foreign residents in city planning process” and provides prototype smart apps that can be used as a collaboration tool.

I am exploring the issues of languages used in the signpost in Kyoto, Japan with the aim to engage the “foreign participation in reporting the signpost that are difficult to understand” to the city planners.
