To achieve efficient solid waste management at neighbourhood level, sensors, cameras as monitoring systems could be installed at each ‘Dhalao’. Sensors could be used for segregating bio-wastes and plastic wastes (which is currently not practised in our locality or some parts of Delhi) and it could also be effective in checking the level of air pollution in and around the ‘Dhalao’. If sensors are installed in the metallic containers, it will give signals when the container will be almost full at the municipality’s main controlling station and thus would prevent people from dumping solid wastes more into the filled container and littering the area.
Technology support in managing solid waste would lead to efficient service delivery (collection, segregation and removal of garbage including street sweeping, etc.) thus creating clean surroundings and enhancing the sense of health & hygiene amongst the residents at neighbourhood level.
