Using Smartphones to monitor many aspects of city has become a viral trend and is turning out to be useful for the community as a great source of data-generation. This idea of Noise Mapping is very striking. It involves a android app which can be easily involved onto any smartphone to make it better to detect noise pollution and using GPS make a noise map based on it.
Here's a link to this app-

It is an exciting app which is open-source so contributing as a researcher or to generate ideas to further develop this platform would lead to a lot of progress in terms of city-decision making by understanding local and global noise pollution
