Safe Passage for Students

I'm from Chicago, and we have a severe problem with violence, especially involving children and teens. There's a desperate need to keep students safe, especially when they're going to and from school. Learning about RFIDs gave me an idea about equipping students with tags (which could be implanted in their school IDs) that could alert them when they are inside or near gang territory. These tags would communicate with remote sensors located throughout the areas surrounding a school where students are most likely to commute by walking. An alert would be sent to students when they cross dangerous areas, which would either encourage them to be careful and aware of their surroundings or to choose a different path to school. This would definitely not eliminate all instances of crime, it would at least help make students more aware of their well-being.
