Social media is increasing the need to physical meeting spaces.
Whether it is Coursera, meetups, on line dating, dynamic collobration, virtual companies etc, there is increasing demand for physical meeting places with high speed internet, Video Conferencing, and good coffee.
I am suggesting that libraries should embrace the new function and include an area where people can book space, meet, talk loudly, access internet, access reference material, VC others elsewhere etc.
It saves new investment, it reuses an existing community asset, it reinvigorates libraries, and it reminds the wider community that librarians are a great resource.
And of course, it should be chargeable, but at a reasonable rate. This is about using shared community investment, not profiteering.
