I do disaster relief and during Hurricane Sandy recovery I was using a collaborative work order system. Basically, people were encouraged to call 211 and tell the operator what they needed. The operator's input would then populate a Google map with a symbol (representing their type of need-supplies, tree down, demolition, etc) over the person's address. Participating organizations could log on to the system and claim a case, taking responsibility for meeting the claim's needs. The system has since morphed into Crisis Cleanup (see link).
I am interested in expanding on this idea. I would like to think of it internationally. How can sensors be used? How can needs be put into the system on a quick and global scale to more efficiently mobilize support?
