Cities are comprised of so many different elements. Quality of life is affected by education, transportation, housing, environment, health, civic vitality, arts &culture, public safety, technology and the economy. As such, indicators that aim to measure quality of life must reflect this diversity. The Boston Indicators Project, an initiative of the Boston Foundation, tracks a broad set of indicators (over 300) and has an entire framework for thinking about urban indicators that start with the sector, then filter down to key goals, then indicators, then finally measures that capture the indicators quantitatively.
