By adopting new technologies, we are all giving our implicit agreement that the person or persons with access to our personal data may use it how they will. Otherwise we would have a much more deliberative and thought out process directed towards assuring privacy *before* its wholesale and happy adoption.
I see nothing evil about companies or governments using what we give them without question. And it is no argument that we did not know beforehand, because it is our responsibility. No one is forcing us to use smartphones. We can boycott businesses that use video cameras if we really feel so strongly about it.
