Vendors at public markets (farmers' markets, flea markets etc.) can rarely afford the up-front and monthly costs of equipment to accept credit, debit and EBT payments. If these cards were embedded with RFID chips, and each vendor had an RFID reader, perhaps the vendors could read the balance and card numbers on people's cards, tell a central computing service (perhaps the bank) to charge the card for a certain amount.
