As you saw in the videos for this week there are many different types of online engagement tools. We are using MindMixer as one example so you can learn by doing. As you have discovered every online community has challenges. In some cases noone participates. In other cases, many participate but there are a few voices that dominate the conversation. Sometimes there are voices that only want to talk about one thing that isn't related to what the planning process is seeking to accomplish.
Let's discuss what it takes to effectively engage? How can cities work with the citizens to create a successful engagement process that encourages broad participation?
I challenge the class to transform our MindMixer engagement platform into a model of effective, productive participation. Let's all model the behavior that we would hope to see from the people in our own communities.
