On April 15, 2013 there was a tragic bombing at the Boston Marathon. Almost instantly pictures and videos of "suspects" started to appear on the web. Was this a good thing? Do you have concerns?

But it would need to be carefully thought out what kinds of things are useful for crowds to participate in. Crowds can get carried away and misinformation can be spread. technology means that this can happen quickly and be instantly damaging, and hard to recover from. Thought needs to be given to appropriate tasks for crowds to undertake, and speculation should be kept to a minimum. Police need to harness this observational power so it can be used effectively.
