On April 15, 2013 there was a tragic bombing at the Boston Marathon. Almost instantly pictures and videos of "suspects" started to appear on the web. Was this a good thing? Do you have concerns?

Asking for pictures / videos of points of interest during the investigation is helpful and very effective. However, letting the crowd do actual investigation can be very dangerous. Mob mentality can spiral out of control very quickly, as we saw with the reddit's supect of the boston bombing Sunil Tripathi.

That is the reason why crowdsourcing of investigations should be limited to collecting evidence.
