In recent years the number of railings winding up at scrap yards after theft has increased. In this day an age it seems a requirement that government buildings and offices have surveillance to prevent petty vandals, let alone more dangerous behaviors. Cameras are cheap compared to enlarging a police force especially in a time when most cities are cutting back on man power. Other sensor technology could be considered including wireless RFID theft sensors that alarm when equipment is taken outside of it's operational zone.
