Can hackathons help create smarter cities?
Technology Alone?
Apr 21, 2015 Edgar A5

Hackathons are merely a tool to create a pool of talent to help with technological applications for problem solving. Does that mean that mean that we have found the cure for cancer, developed a device to ensure world peace, or a means to feed and clothe everyone? No, but it is a platform that allows individuals to become aware of pressing issues within their city that they may not have know of before, and they in turn tell their friends and relations about that issue. To me this is how these Hackathons make for a better city. Technology alone will not solve all of the problems faced within society, but it can and does serve a purpose. And sometimes, that purpose can find a focal point when various people come together for the common good.
